Sports Day

The Claregalway/Lackagh Community Games Annual Sports Day was held on Saturday 17^th April at Dangan Track. The glorious sunshine added to the party atmosphere as the young athletes gathered hoping for a medal and maybe even a place in the county finals. Well done to all who participated. We look forward to seeing you back again next year.Winners now proceed to the County finals which will be held in Ballindereen on the 6^th and 7^th June. We wish them the best of luck. Success in 2009

What a busy and successful year we had in 2009!

45 local children qualified to compete in the National finals in Athlone over the three weekends. These were in activities as diverse as basketball, olympic handball, dancing and athletics. Congratulations to all these children who represented their area, county and province with distinction and to the medal winners:

• Cliona Ni Cochlain who achieved a gold medal in the National U10 hurdles final.

• U14 Boys and Girls Olympic Handball Teams who achieved Bronze in the National Finals

• U16 Girls Basketball Team who achieved Gold medals amidst very stiff competition. click on picture above for larger picture and panel names)

• U14 Traditional Dance group who achieved 4th Place medals.

What is Community Games? Community Games provides opportunities for children and young people (aged 6-15) to experience a wide range of sporting and cultural activities to help them to grow and develop in a positive and healthy way. It is an independent voluntary organisation operating through local communities with over 500,000 participants, 20,000 volunteers and over 1.3 million supporters. Community Games operates at 4 levels Area, County, Provincial and National. Our area comprises the Parish areas of Claregalway and Lackagh. We are affiliated to Galway Community Games at County Level and are part of the Connaught organisation.
